Indian culture has been full of great personalities. One of them is Dr A.P.J., Abdul Kalam. He is also known as the missile man of India because of his great contribution to Indian missile development Research. Plus, he has been the 11th president of India and served the country politically.

Abdul Kalam is accountable for developing India’s first satellite launch vehicle, developing and operating strategic missiles, and constructing indigenous capability in significant technologies.

A brief life history

Dr A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, full name Dr Avul Pakija Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, Was an Indian scientist, politician, writer and teacher. He took birth on 15 October 1931 at Rameswaram in Madras Presidency. This place is now in Ramanathapuram District, Tamil Nadu. His father was a boat owner and imam (An Islamic leader) of a local mosque. He was the youngest of four brothers and a sister.

Abdul Kalam was an average student in school but his learning attitude was exceptional. He used to spend hours studying. His favourite subject was mathematics. After completing his school education, he graduated in physics. In 1955 Abdul Kalam went to the Madras Institute of Technology to study Aerospace Engineering.

The missile man of India

He always dreamed of flying in the sky. He wanted to be a pilot. Abdul Kalam missed achieving his dream. He was the ninth qualifier for IAF (Indian Air Force) and there were only eight positions available. But this failure proved to be a success for the entire country.

After Abdul Kalam joined DRDO ( Defense Research and Development Organisation ) as a scientist. He was then transferred to ISRO ( Indian Space Research Organisation ) Where he worked on SLVs ( Sattelite Launch Vehicles) and deployed satellites near Earth. He took India to the heights of the sky. He assisted in the development of Agni and Prithvi missiles.
